White Paper: The Transformative Potential of NLP within Psychiatric Clinical Practice

The Transformative Potential of NLP within Psychiatric Clinical Practice: The exploration of a US NLP Portability Pilot and its implications for Clinicians and wider Life Sciences

Collaborators:

The global mental health crisis is at an all-time high, as is the burnout experienced by countless overburdened clinicians in psychiatry. Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology could provide a pathway to alleviation of the above challenges, in addition to streamlined workloads, new insights and significant enhancements in care delivery.

This white paper covers a pilot project assessing the portability of Akrivia Health’s NLP technology — currently successfully implemented across several NHS organisations in the UK — for use on de-identified psychiatric Electronic Health Record (EHR) data from the United States.

The results of this study are compelling, and demonstrate the potential of Akrivia’s NLP technology to deliver reliable and generalisable performance across diverse international clinical settings.

Dataset size:

  • Over 33,000 psychiatric encounters
  • 500 patients

Sample location:

  • United States
